'I used to look at my bank account and feel my pulse quicken, my face turn red, and an overall sense of anxiety and guilt for once again spending too much. At some point I stopped checking my bank account, which definitely didn't help my financial future. I kept ignoring it, until I couldn't anymore. One day, at a really low point, I sat myself down and created an Excel sheet with my expenses dating back six months. I sat there until midnight, and was horrified by the expenses I hadn't notice had piled up. I promised myself I won't leave it until I understand exactly how much money I spend every month, and figure things out. Later on, I signed up for a cash flow app that updates me on a weekly basis about my expenses, income and how much I can spend for that week.
It was life-changing for me, and allowed me to feel more relaxed, let go of the shame, and begin to save and even invest.
Don't ignore it. Expense management is one of the greatest gifts I've given myself."
