Many of us procrastinate about getting things done for various reason. Sometimes the topic is boring, too complicated or they're simply too busy and have no time. Erikson's theory of development describes maturity as a level that begins at age 50 and continues until the end of life, where the person calculates all of their achievements and failures in life. A negative summary will cause a feeling of a missed opportunity and despair, due to the inability to change that. In her book 'Taking the Leap (Likfotz LaMayim)' Annabella Shaked talks about reasons for avoidance, and displays a theoretic model for building a bridge between avoidance and action, including exercises designed to motivate us out of a sense of social belonging. This is based on the individual psychology theory by Alfred Adler, and his successors Rudolf Dreikurs and Zivit Abramson.
Vroom's Expectancy Theory talks about the equation of: Benefit X Value (that we attribute to the completion of a task) X Expectation = Motivation
Possible Solutions:
1. Divide large tasks into smaller tasks – focusing on a small task isn't as daunting as a huge task, and can increase the motivation to complete it and get it done.
2. Imagine the task as completed and try to visualize the victorious feeling.
3. Just Do It – don't wait for the right moment. Starting the task will help you get in the zone and perform it.
