One day, during my daily cold-calling marathon, I spoke to a lovely 60-year old woman.
I felt like I really had to help her – a feeling I get quite often in this profession, just like a doctor wants to help their patient, or a person wants to help their friend.
I asked her for her ID number and explained 'I want to check something for you'. She agreed and gave me the details. I opened the Har HaKesef search engine and entered her details.
Har HaKesef is a search engine designed to locate lost provident funds, pension funds, executive insurances or inactive training funds, where money is no longer deposited, and the money just lies in wait.
The Ministry of Finance believes there are billions of unclaimed shekels there, which earned it the name Har HaKesef, literally translating to 'Mountain of Money'.
'I'm telling you, I've got nothing' insisted the woman, but I ignored her words and entered her information. She told me she worked as a teacher for a few years. Now, I know that teachers receive benefits such as provident fund and training fund deposits, which made me curious.
I clicked enter, and saw a very encouraging picture. It appeared that no less than 4 different places show funds in investment houses and insurance companies.
I couldn't see her through the phone, but the excitement in her voice told it all. She couldn't stop thanking me – in less than a minute she went from penniless pensioner to a woman with assets, all thanks to a simple, free search engine.
That night I went to sleep with a grin on my face.
